Dear ^fname^,

September turned out to be quite an adventure. As you know, my sister recently passed away and I inherited her farm in Southern Utah. I spent most of the summer up there, sorting out things, organizing 40 years worth of collected artwork, crafts, pottery and things one collects throughout life. I determined what I would keep, what would go to charity, what would be sold and everything was boxed up ready to go when the farm was burglarized and the majority of my sister’s prize collections were stolen. I called the sheriff’s department and reported the loss. To my surprise, the officer I spoke with said they may know where some of my things were and they’d be out the next morning to take a report, which they did. Later in the day, the sheriff came back with pictures of many of my sister’s things which had been stolen. It appeared that a neighbor not far away had taken the things and dumped them in his yard outside his home. So I identified several of the items in the photos and the sheriff delivered two pickup truck loads of items back to me…which of course, all had to be resorted and repacked.

Then a week later the sheriff called and asked if the next time I was in Cedar City for my cancer treatment, I would stop by his office. So I did and they had me identify some things that had been taken from the farm. They also had more pictures… of inside someone’s home. In the pictures, there were many items that had belonged to my sister. The following week, the sheriff called and asked if I could be up at the farm on Wednesday as they were going to serve a warrant on the neighbor’s home and after they had arrested the people, they would want me to go into the home and identify my sister’s items. So I did. It was very strange being in someone else’s home and picking out the things that you know belonged to someone you love. It was upsetting to find my brother-in-laws identification, my sister’s address book, her birth certificate and many other very personal papers in someone else’s closet. It was also nauseating to see how some people live. This house was as bad as some of the one’s on the television show, “The Hoarders.” Many of her personal items are gone and will never be retrieved, but I take pleasure in the fact that these people have gone to jail. And preliminary hearings are happening at which I have to testify. I will be very interested to see how the rest of this scenario plays out. I feel like I’ve been living in the wild west.

What I have learned from this is that you should be sure to mark all of your tools and personal items with something…a dot of fingernail polish, your initials, or engrave your social security number on your things. There were so many things I was almost positive belonged to my brother-in-law or my sister, but a tool is a tool is a tool and if you can’t prove it’s yours…then it’s not….and the police don’t want to send someone to jail if they are being falsely accused.

I keep thinking there must be a reason for all of this happening, but I honestly can’t think of what that reason would be.

In spite of all the stress this month, my cancer marker numbers are down again…and that is very good. The doctor says if I can keep them this low or below for the next five months I’ll be home free. My body is still very sore from the surgery in March. I thought it would be healed by now. The surgeon says this is just the nerves trying to reconnect. I’m enjoying my new way of eating. The fresh, raw foods are delicious and I find I’m not missing the red meat, dairy products, pastas and breads like I thought I would.

I had a fabulous trip to the Quinault Beach Resort in Ocean Shores, Washington this month to work with the Northwest Indian Housing Association. What a beautiful place! What fabulous people to work with! Another trip to Reno, Nevada where I did two presentations for the Northern Nevada Literacy Council GED students brought me in touch with more wonderful people. While there we planned a full day program for professional women which will be held January 20th in Reno with a wonderful line up of speakers. The public is invited to attend.

Was September an adventure or what???

Remember, no matter what is going on in your life, you are more than enough!

With A Little Bit of Luck

By Judi Moreo

With the economy like it is and the world in chaos, most of us could use a little luck. Some people are just born lucky. Others make their own luck.

Lucky people are usually the ones who expect something good to happen and who are open to possibilities. When the world gives them lemons, they really do “make lemonade.” People who never seem to have any luck are the people who are busy finding out what’s wrong in life and spending time complaining about it. Lucky people are creative people who keep their eyes and ears open.

When my business partner and I saw that a large seminar company that we were working with didn’t have any product on the table about “Creativity,” we offered to write a book on the subject which they could sell in the back of the room at their seminars. They liked the idea and “Conquer the Brain Drain: 52 Creative Ways to Pump Up Productivity” became a reality. We retained the international rights. Then we took a couple of cases of the books to South Africa, hosted a breakfast at a lovely hotel, invited some important people to attend, including a publisher who liked what we had done and bought the book for the South African market. A new cover, a new title and lucky us, we had another book, “Ignite the Spark: 52 Creative Ways to Boost Creativity,” published by Penguin Books.

Many people think I am very lucky. Yes, often I am in the right place at the right time. But I’m the one who decided to be there. When I wrote “You Are More Than Enough,” getting it published so quickly was really good luck. Attending the Las Vegas Writers Conference where I knew publishers and agents would be was a decision, not luck. Presenting my idea to several of them and following up with the ones who showed an interest was sheer determination. Taking the summer off from making money and spending fourteen hours a day finishing the book was hard work. The book came out in the fall and everyone said, “Aren’t you lucky you found a publisher so quickly?” Yes, I was. I am also lucky that my publisher believes in me and promotes me. I contribute to that by being dependable and promoting my own book at every opportunity. When Stephens Press also offered to publish the matching “Achievement Journal,” I was again very lucky. Another great product was born! It had only taken me twenty years of designing and redesigning, using and reusing that journal until I had built a fabulous success system that others could benefit from and create their own success.

We are all presented with opportunities. Some of us see the possibilities and act on them. Others don’t see the possibilities and therefore nothing good comes out of the situation. Some of us get an idea and work toward the fruition while others give up along the way. We actually have far more control over our luck than most people realize. If you expect to win the lottery, you’d better buy a ticket. With a little bit of luck, one day, you’ll win!

Life Choices

Life Choices: Putting the Pieces TogetherThe new Life Choices: Putting the Pieces Together book has arrived. Twenty-six authors contributed awesome stories to this book. We will have the launch at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino in conjunction with the Vegas Voice Health and Wellness Expo on October 30th. Each of the authors will give a short presentation, books will be available for purchase, and of course, the authors will be happy to autograph them for you. As always with our launches, we will have an author and invited guest only cocktail party the night before the launch and a wine and cheese let their hair down party after the launch. The wine and cheese party is a tradition started by Life Choices: Navigating Difficult Paths author, Sandra Neilson and her husband, Jasper. We thought it such a good idea, we just have to do it again.

We are now accepting stories for consideration in the new Life Choices: Pursuing Your Passion book.

NSA-LV Chapter

Our first meeting of the year, Sept. 18th was awesome. Our President-Elect, Lewin Williams was the MC for the day. Paul Burton gave a magical presentation on organizing and time management, Randy Mitchell gave us a professional tip, and Sandy Kastel talked about and performed one of her new original songs. The star of the day, Robert Gould was our featured speaker. Robert is the producer of the Faerieworlds™, FaerieCon™, and Mythic Faire™ international musical and theatrical events that attract over 30,000 guests annually. He also speaks on fantasy, myth, media, and culture at various film and culture conventions, colleges, and universities in the U.S. and internationally. You could hear a pin drop as he spoke.

This month our featured speaker will be Mike Rayburn, star of the What’s Happening in Vegas show, speaking on 17 Ways to Get A Bazillion Bookings and he should know. This guy works all the time. That’s October 16th , 9 am – noon at the Henderson Executive Air Terminal conference room. His warm up acts will be Eric Culverson speaking on Managing Change and Anthony Spinicchia, author of “The Wonders of Chi Kung.” This will be a powerful meeting. Don’t miss it. Life Choices: Putting the Pieces Together

Life Choices: Putting the Pieces Together

We all come into this world the same… with no preconceived notions, fears, or prejudices about our future. The life we eventually live is a result of the choices we make. When life circumstances happen to us, we have options. We choose one of those options and then we follow it up with corresponding action. The route for our journey is chosen based on where we want to go and when we want to arrive at a certain destination. We must do our own research as to which is the best route for us and how long it will take us to complete the journey.

Each of the twenty-six authors in this book has addressed devastating hurdles they have faced in order to reach his or her current level of success. You’ll find no fairy tales or ivory tower suggestions in this book. It is a collection of powerful, straight forward true stories written by real people who have experienced life altering circumstances and overcome the obstacles that were in their paths.

Your choices may not be the same as the choices these authors have made. These stories are not written to give advice, only encouragement and hope that you too can find a way to put the pieces of your life together. It is time to make new choices and move on.
