Dear ,

I have a list of folks I know, all written in a book
And every year at Holiday-time I go and take a look.
And that is when I realize that these names are a part...
Not of the book they’re written in, but of my very heart!

For each name stands for someone who has crossed my path sometime.
And in that meeting they’ve become the rhythm in each rhyme.
And while it sounds fantastic for me to make this claim
I really feel that I’m composed of each remembered name.

And while you may not be aware of any special link,
Just meeting you has changed my life – a lot more than you think.
For once I’ve met somebody, the years can not erase,
The memory of a pleasant word or a friendly face.

So never think my Holiday wishes are just a mere routine,
Of names upon a Holiday list, forgotten in-between!
For when I send a Holiday wish that is addressed to you
It’s because you’re on the list of folks that I’m indebted to!

For one’s in part, a total of the many folks we’ve met,
And you happen to be one whom I prefer not to forget!
And whether I have known you for many years or few.
In some way you’ve been a part of shaping things I do.

And every year when Holidays come, I realize anew
The best gift life can offer is meeting folks like you.
So may that wondrous Holiday spirit that is timeless and endures
L
eave its richest blessings in the hearts of you and yours.
Happy Holidays!

Miracles

As the holidays are upon us, now would be a good time to reflect on miracles.  "Why now?" you ask.  Because now is when we most need miracles in our lives and yet, it is also when we are most likely to miss them when they occur.  We become so caught up in the demands of our jobs, our families and our communities, and on top of that we must do all the extra work of getting ready for the holidays.  We are so busy we rarely pause to reflect on the miracles that happen every day.

No discussion of miracles would be complete without first talking about exactly what constitutes a miracle. For some, a miracle is an event believed to be caused by divine intervention by a supernatural being in the universe by which the ordinary operation of Nature is overruled, suspended, or modified. In other words, something that cannot be explained scientifically or by the currently understood laws of nature is thought of as a “miracle.” In casual usage, "miracle" may also refer to any statistically unlikely but beneficial event, such as the survival of a natural disaster or even events regarded as "wonderful", such as a birth, survival of a fatal illness, escaping a life threatening situation or 'beating the odds'.

All of these things are generally accepted and spoken of as miracles.  Now is the time to reflect on the miracles we so often take for granted.  We know scientifically that the earth revolves on its axis once every 24 hours and that rotation causes the sun to rise and set on the horizons. Yet we rarely take a moment to acknowledge the incredible synchronicity that must happen in order for the sun to rise.  The simple beauty of a sunrise or sunset is a miracle in itself.  We must take the time to notice.

Miracles are the little things that remind us that there exists outside ourselves a world of wonder, beauty and harmony. When all we can think about is balancing the budget, getting meals on the table, making sure homework is finished and making it through another day, we lose sight of beauty, wonder and possibilities.   It is easy to forget to smell the flowers – and acknowledge the hundreds of tiny miracles that took place to get that flower to grow in that place at that moment. A child’s laughter, the smile of a friend when we most need it, the silent flight of a butterfly – all of these things and more are the tiny miracles that help us get beyond the drudgery of yet another day.

When the world seems to be closing in, when our finances are at their worst, when we cannot see the forest for the trees – these are the times when we most need to take the time to reflect on the miracles we take for granted.  It is also a time to open ourselves to the miracles that lie within us.

The seed of a redwood tree is about three times the size of a pin head.  From this tiny beginning, the coast redwood grows to tower over all other trees in the world. It is not possible to stand in the presence of these magnificent trees without feeling a sense of awe and wonder.

Within each of us lie the seeds of miracles.  Like the giant redwoods, these seeds can grow into something greater than anything we have seen or done before. It is time to feel that same  sense of awe and wonder for all of what we are and what we can be.

Take time to reflect on miracles. Take a moment now to take a deep breath, open your eyes to the miracles around you – and the miracles that lie within you.  Breathe in the wonder of being alive and allow yourself to become the “miracle” you were created to be.

What Judi's Customers Are Saying

Dear Judi:

My Grandson, Tristen was diagnosed 7 months ago with Diabetes, Type I.  This came as a huge surprise to us because Tristen is what they call a "natural athlete" so he has always been very active.  His parents have watched what he ate - you know, no candy, no caffeine, etc.  Tristen turned 10 in November.

One of Tristen's major challenges is that his Pancreas still produces insulin so his numbers are all over the place.  If his Pancreas was not producing, he would inject himself on a set ratio for the carbs he eats.  However, because his body is still creating insulin, his adrenaline, emotions, and activity challenges his sugar level on a continuous basis which causes his body to be either high or low depending on the circumstances.  When this happens, he not only has to inject himself when he eats carbs but must "correct" depending on whether he's high or low.

Last year when you spoke at our District, you gave me a bracelet that says "Expect Miracles".  I wore this bracelet from time to time as an accessory until Tristen was diagnosed.  At that time, I reached for the bracelet and realized that it was a perfect symbol of support and expectations for Tristen.  He and I discussed the bracelet, it's symbolism, and what it meant to each of us.  I have worn the bracelet every day since then.  He knows that this symbolizes our constant prayer for a miracle for him.

Last month, you gave me a bracelet that says "I am more than enough".  You also gave me one for Tristen.  Once again, we had a discussion about his condition and how it relates to the bracelet.  He wears this bracelet daily to remind him that he is indeed more than enough and I wear both bracelets.

I can't close this message without telling you about this remarkable child. Diabetes Type I is a major change in anyone's life, let alone a 10 year old athlete.  I won't say that his attitude is perfect every moment; who's would be?  I will say that these moments are few and far between.  Tristen did his 5th grade science project on Diabetes and took the school's first place.  He has researched athletes with diabetes and learned that he can continue to be successful with the sports that he loves so much.  Tristen is looking into starting a childrens' Diabetes "walk" in his area to bring an awareness to the community.  Since he is so strong in math and science, he's beginning to talk about possibly going into medicine - perhaps he's been chosen to find the "cure".  Tristen's attitude is remarkable - he strives for a positive attitude, continues to live a "normal" life even when he has to inject during half time at soccer. We as adults could take lessons from this child and I am very proud of him.

When you gave me the first bracelet, I had no idea how important it would become in our lives.  Tristen smiles when he sees it on my wrist and we all know that while we respect science and medicine, that we also hope and pray and "expect miracles".

Thank you, Judi.  You will remain in my heart and mind foreverI wear what you stand for every day!!

Val

John Michael Stuart’s book, Perfect Circles, is a deeply moving personal account of overcoming obstacles and making a life of value. It made me laugh; it made me cry; most of all, it made me think. It is the kind of book that is needed by anyone struggling to find his or her own path. You can’t read it and be unmoved or unchanged. It is the best self-help book I have read in years—and I read them all!
