Dear ,

Today I received this poem along with a personal note from my very dear friend, Merle, who lives in South Africa and Gibraltar.  It meant so much to me that I wanted to send it on to you…because each of you mean so very much to me. I’m very blessed to have you in my life.

When I was little,
I used to believe in the concept of one best friend,
And then I started to become a woman.

And then I found out that if you allow
your heart to open up,
God would show you the best in many friends.

One friend is needed when you're going through things with your spouse or partner...
Another friend is needed when you're going through things with your mom.
Another when you want to shop, share, heal, hurt, joke, or just be.

One friend will say, "Let's cry together,"
another, "Let's fight together,"
another, "Let's walk away together."

One friend will meet your spiritual need,
another your shoe fetish,
another your love for movies,
another will be with you in your season of confusion,
another will be your clarifier,
another the wind beneath your wings.

But whatever their assignment in your life,
on whatever the occasion,
on whatever the day,
or wherever you need them to meet you with their gym shoes on,
or to hold you back from making a complete fool of yourself...
those are your best friends.

It may all be wrapped up in one person or in many!

Thank you for being my friends.

ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONALS CONFERENCE

I had the opportunity to see many of you at the Administrative Professionals Conference held at the MGM here in Las Vegas this month and it felt like a class reunion.  Thank you for attending my sessions.   Last year in Florida, when I mentioned my new book, “You Are More Than Enough”, Rita Gamela and Tamy Raina were the first two people to give me an order for the book.  Now, this year, they were right there on the front row and were the first to hand me orders for my new You Are More Than Enough “Achievement Journal.”

Many of you know that I have been working on this journal for 20 years.  Journals just didn’t work right for me.  I wanted something that I could put in the pictures of my goals so I could visualize them.  I also wanted to write out the goals, so they could be specific.  I wanted a way to keep track of upcoming events and also to write when I felt like it, not feel like I had to write daily.  In addition, I wanted a way to measure how I was doing.  So over the years, I took journals apart and put them back together, I added pages and deleted pages until finally I had one that worked for me.  Several of my friends saw it and wanted one, so I gave them a homemade version.  Then my publisher, Carolyn Hayes-Uber at Stephens Press saw it and decided she had to have one, so she made it possible for each of you to have one as well.  She hired the same artist that designed the book, Sue Campbell, to be art director on the journal and now we have an incredible book, complete with peel and stick gold stars of all shapes and sizes.  Charlotte Foust, who wrote the affirmations in the YAMTE book, has written approximately 400 affirmations for the journal.  You are going to love it.  And guess what, it’s going to sell for only $19.95 and yes, we will have them before Christmas!

OFFICE PROFESSIONALS FORUM FOR ADMINISTRATIVE EXCELLENCE

Also, this month I made a lot of new friends at the Forum For Administrative Excellence where I was the keynote speaker. (And by the way, thank you for the standing ovation.)  This was my first opportunity to experience one of Joan Burge’s events.  What a wonderful group of speakers, staff, and attendees!  I know all of you who attended benefited greatly from this event which was also held here in Las Vegas at the beautiful Red Rock Resort.

Article: What About Me?

Most of us give more time and attention to our jobs and families than we do to ourselves. Whether we are a manager, worker bee, parent, or all three, we plan our days, manage our work load, speak positively about our boss-company-job-husband-kids, and generally put thought and energy into doing what we do. We work overtime in the evenings and on weekends to get everything done that needs to be done, often skipping meals and breaks.

When we have no energy left at the end of the day, the little voice we each have inside of us sometimes screams , ”What about me?”  Wouldn’t it be wonderful if each of us could have our very own personal assistant that was dedicated to taking care of us and only us? The only way that will happen for most of us is to learn to do for ourselves what we so willingly do for others.

A good personal assistant would never make promises his/her boss couldn’t keep.  So why do we forget to say “no” when it comes to stretching ourselves too thin in our personal life?  Make sure you keep your word to yourself.  Make time for yourself and remind yourself to keep the appointment.

Don’t breach confidentiality.  You would never tell secrets about your boss or your company to a competitor.  Always keep your own council.  Your dreams, goals and desires are just that – YOURS. Share them only with people who will support you.  When you do talk about yourself, whether it’s to someone else or just in your head, always remember to be positive.

Learn all you can about the situations or conditions that appear to be obstacles in your life.  Make a plan to get through whatever it is.  And then take one step at a time.   Remember to listen to the little voice inside and when it says “What about me?” be sure you have an uplifting answer such as “I hear you.  Here’s what I’m doing for you now.”

Mind Workout: Realization Exercise

Before you can choose a new direction in life, you need to know who you are and what strengths you have. Imagine you have just run into a friend you haven’t seen in a long time and you are telling this person every good thing you can think of about yourself and every accomplishment you have achieved.

Write this down and post it where you can see it every day.

AFFIRMATION (Repeat daily for 21 days)
I am more than enough. There is no one who can be a better me than I can. I am complete just as I am. My mind, my heart and my skills expand to meet each new challenge and need with ease. There is always enough of me to share – with plenty to spare. I am complete. I am more than enough.
